The Multicultural Council of the Northern Territory Inc (MCNT)
The Multicultural Council of the Northern Territory Inc (MCNT) based in Darwin is a community-based non-profit organisation: a peak advocacy body for the multicultural community; and a service provider for migrants and refugees. During business hours the MCNT is a ‘drop in centre’ and ‘one stop shop’ for members and clients.
The MCNT receives operational funding from the NT Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) and project funding from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) through the Settlement Grants Program and the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) through the Family Support Program.
The MCNT is administered managed by an elected board of volunteers known as the Management (Executive) Committee which meets monthly. The MCNT staff comprises an Executive Officer and Finance and Administration Manager; other MCNT Project Officers are appointed according to the need and circumstance of the organisation.
Over the years the MCNT has successfully administered substantial operational and project funding from the NT and Federal Government agencies and has consistently demonstrated its capacity to meet project and financial reporting timeframes. The MCNT delivers independently audited financial statements to its funding bodies.
The MCNT successfully administered DIAC funding in previous years for major Living in Harmony and National Action Plan projects and in 2010-11 receives SGP funding from DIAC for two major projects including the new Passport To Drive Project. The MCNT has successfully administered FaHCSIA funding continuously since 2005 for the Multicultural Solutions Project.
